Gary Wendell Bennett age 75, of McDermott lost his battle with ALS on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. Gary was born on September 20, 1946 to the late Willard Melton Bennett and Tiny America Muriel (Briggs) Bennett. Gary is survived by his wife Carol (Selvage) Bennett whom he married on July 5, 1968. Also surviving are his five children; Gary (Trina) Bennett II of Lucasville, Annette (Charles) Miller of Lucasville, Carrie Bracken of Lucasville, Amy (Dave) Burton of McDermott and Jason (Bridget) Bennett of South Webster. Gary is the proud grandfather of; Arika Bennett, Remington Bennett, Chip (Hannah) Allen, Faith (Cody) Mundhenk, Charity (Kraig) Cassady, Bronston (Kayla) Bennett, Payton Dever-Bracken, Ry Smith, Zakk-Dave Burton, Jessy Burton, Kodi Burton, Josey Burton, Alexandra (Alan) Shelton, Connor (Jessica) Campbell, Cynthia Bennett, Kalyn (Tyler) Henry, Westley Montavon, Olivia Montavon and Dawson Montavon. Gary is the great grandfather of Donavon, Grace, Broc, Corbin, Axel, Kaiden, Talyon, Ivy, Abel and Noah; brother of Carolyn Brown of Otway and Markeeta Rawlins of South Webster. He also is survived by many nieces, nephew and close friends. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by a brother; Sonny Bennett, three sisters; Sandy Tackett, Barbara Riffe and Mary Lawson.
Gary was enlisted in the US Army from 1965 to 1967 serving in South Korea having the rank of Sergeant E-5. Gary retired from RL Lute Logging and also worked as a skilled carpenter. In his free time, Gary was an active hunter and fisherman. He also loved spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 31, 2022 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Otway with Arnold Matthews officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
