Vernon Wilbur Lavender

Vernon Wilbur Lavender, 90, of Franklin Furnace passed away Monday, November 1, 2021 at Concord Health & Rehabilitation Center in Wheelersburg. Vernon was born September 26, 1931 in Franklin Furnace to the late Harry and Lora Porter Lavender. Vernon worked as a Stationary Engineer for Semet Solvay and retired from Columbus Power Plant. Vernon was an Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War. As long as his health was good, Vernon was an active member of Berean Baptist Church and could be counted on to volunteer for church work. In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by siblings, Earl, Ernie, Walter and George Lavender; Betty Davis and Helen Mays and also a brother and sister that died in infancy. Vernon is survived by his wife, Maxine Carter Lavender whom he married December 24, 1955 in Manchester, NC; a son, David (Marilyn) Lavender; three daughters, Janice (Darrell) Thomas, Kathy (John) Jimison and Marsha Minard; a brother, Harry Franklin Lavender; eleven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

Services for Vernon will be 1:00 pm Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg with Pastor Roger Lavender officiating. Interment will be in Buckeye Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday at the funeral home 11:00 am until the 1:00 pm service hour. Condolences to the family may be made at www.harrison-pyles.com.
