Mary Christine Montavon, 81, of Pond Creek Road, passed away Monday, November 1, 2021 at SOMC Hospice. Mary was the daughter of Charles and Stella (Koenig) Eichenlaub. She was born February 27, 1940, in Otway, the second of six children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers; Jim and Henry, and her sister, Rose. Mary is survived by her husband of 37 years, David Lee Montavon, of Pond Creek, brothers; Bob Eichenlaub (Carol) of Otway, and Larry Eichenlaub (Mae) of Hamilton, MT, as well as her dogs; Sissy and Bella.
Mary was a graduate of Ohio University, having earned her Master’s Degree in Education. She devoted her career to teaching Kindergarten and First Grade in the Northwest Local School District. Mary enjoyed reading, canning food, and needlework, and she was among the finest cooks to ever grace a table with a meal. Above all, perhaps her greatest legacy, is the love and example she provided for her many nieces and nephews, too many to name here. She was a common thread at the center of a family tapestry across the generations who were so privileged to benefit from her guidance and example.
Special recognition must be given to her nieces; Cassie Bolin and Sandy Cabrera and family friend, Kim Free, for the care and devotion they provided Mary in the final years of her life.
