Doris “Ilene” Wente

Doris “Ilene” Wente, 95, of Grayson, Kentucky passed away October 8, 2021 in the care of Community Hospice at Boyd County Nursing Home. She was born in Portsmouth on August 2, 1926. She worked for General Telephone of Ohio as a telephone operator for thirteen years until her first son was born and then became a stay-at-home mom.

Ilene is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Wente and wife Janet of Grayson, Kentucky, and Stephen Wente and wife Charlotte of Taylorsville, Kentucky, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by two younger sisters, Edna Kidd of Brookfield, Ohio, and Sharon Robbins of Lexington, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ronald Raymond Wente of Wheelersburg, her parents, Roscoe and Grace Zornes of Portsmouth, and a twin sister Irene Prather of Waukegan, Illinois.

Ilene lived most of her adult life with her husband in Columbus, Ohio where they were members of the Madison Christian Church in Groveport, Ohio. After her husband developed Alzheimer’s they moved to Taylorsville, Kentucky and were members of Spencer Christian Church.   She moved to Grayson, Kentucky after the death of her husband and lived independently at Friendship House for thirteen years and was a member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ. She was a strong Christian, loved the Lord, and read her Bible faithfully.

She will be interred at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg beside her husband and parents. Due to COVID there will be an outdoor graveside service only at 11:00 a.m.  Friday October 15, 2021 under the direction of the D.W.
