David Wayne Whissen

David Wayne Whissen, 60, of Otway, passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Southern Ohio Medical Center.  He was born on October 26, 1960 in Portsmouth to the late Harold “Sonny” Ray Whissen and Marilyn Faye Morgan Whissen.  Surviving are his three children; Michael (Christina) Whissen of Havelock, North Carolina, Eric (fiancé Robin Tackett) Whissen of Greenup, Kentucky and Melissa Bailey of Newark, New Jersey; two sisters, LaVonna (Brent) Harper of Hutchinson, Kansas and Kelli Schaeffer of Wichita, Kansas; step children, Rebecca (Terry) Stewart of South Shore, Kentucky, Michael (Michelle) Odel of Washington Court House, Ohio and Greg Odel of McDermott, Ohio; five grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren.  In addition to his parents David was preceded in death by one sister, Teresa Tolle; a nephew, Andy Tolle, a niece, Tracy Potter and a granddaughter, Presley Whissen.

David was a retired carpet installer and a proud veteran of the US Army.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2021 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Otway, Ohio with Junior Wylie officiating.  Burial will follow in Oswego Cemetery, Otway.  Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.  Military Graveside Honors will be conducted by Portsmouth Post #23.
