Robert Lee Smith

Robert Lee Smith, 95, of Portsmouth, formerly of Lucasville, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021, at Hillview Retirement Center.

He was born November 23, 1925, in Portsmouth, a son of the late Warren and Mary Fields Smith.

Bob was a retired Electrician for Goodyear Atomic and Martin Marietta in Piketon. He was a WWII US Navy veteran and the oldest member of the William Baker Post of the American Legion. Bob was a former member of the Valley Board of Education, a 1942 Valley High School graduate, and a member of Temple Baptist Church.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Aleene Gilmore Smith, August 23, 2005; four brothers, Bill, Warren, Ralph, and Donald Smith; and three sisters, Marguerite Martin, Betty Estepp, and Wilma Stitzel.

Bob is survived by his sons, Robert L. (Denise) Smith Jr. of Naples, FL and Wayne Smith of Athens, OH; four grandchildren, Cara Kouse, Breanne Sisler, Nathan Smith and Tim Smith; three great-grandchildren, Riley, Kairan, and Harper.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2021 in Scioto Cemetery with John Gowdy officiating. Military graveside rites will be performed by the William Baker and James F. Irwin Posts of the American Legion. Friends may call noon till 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Temple Baptist Church in Portsmouth. Arrangements are under the direction of the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville.

Due to Covid-19, masks are preferred.
