Betty June Brafford

Betty June Brafford, 78, of Minford, Ohio, passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021.
She was born August 17, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland to Billy and Florene (Wadkins) Payton.  She was a member of North Moreland Christian Baptist Church in New Boston and Freedom Chapel Church in Wellston.
First and foremost a wife, mother, and grandmother, Betty loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially during family vacations and holidays.  She was particularly fond of Christmas and her family will always remember the many, many Christmases she worked to make special for all of them.  Her grandchildren are left with happy memories of countless hours of playing and coloring with her and relaxed mornings enjoying her “artfully” created pancakes.  Betty also touched many lives through the years with her devotion to church and community.  In addition to coaching softball and volunteering for many years with the cancer society, she was deeply active in her church.  For many years she led “We Care,” which ministered to the families of lost ones through food and service, and was an avid fundraiser for numerous church-related causes.  She also mentored and ministered to countless young people through her years of devotion as a youth leader, Sunday school teacher, and youth camp volunteer.
Betty is survived by four children and their spouses, Perry and Bonnie Brafford of Wellston, Sherry and Steve Staten of Frisco City, Kelly and Doug Surratt of Kingston, and Scott and Jamie Brafford of Minford; three sisters, Janet Stiles, Jean Blackburn, and Billie Comisford; Seven grandchildren, Josh, Brandon, Stephanie, Caleb, Nathaniel, Amy, and Katey; five greatgrandchildren, Courtney, Tucker, Emma, Payton, and Trager; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Delmas Brafford, who passed away in 2016 after 57 years of marriage, and a sister, Kathy Hall.
The family will receive friends Friday, July 23 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at D.W. Swick Funeral Home New Boston. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Mike Simpson officiating.  Internment will follow at White Gravel Cemetery in Madison Township.  Online condolences may be left at www.DWSwickFuneralHome.com.
