Mary Grace Thompson Glynn

Mary Grace Thompson Glynn, 93, born in Globe, KY on May 18, 1928, died on July 8, 2021 at Hillview Retirement Center, Portsmouth, OH. Her jobs included: secretary to the President of the National Bank of Portsmouth, type setter in a print shop, telephone operator, and various positions at the Ohio State Unemployment Office. She was a member of the Grant & Summit Church of Christ since 1937, and member of the Golden Bears at Shawnee State University.

Mary was courageous, battling health issues, e.g. a brain aneurysm, breast cancer, Guillian-Barre, and dementia. Her strong faith brought her through all these obstacles. She was the spitting image of her mother (a great compliment), and she followed her mother’s advice: “make God first in your life.” She loved playing games and crocheting, but her greatest joy came from being with her brothers and sisters, singing, and putting on skits at family reunions.

She was cute and funny (even when she didn’t mean to be), but also played the straight man to her husband Marty’s antics. She was compassionate, hospitable, and would give the proverbial shirt off her back to any who might ask. If you were blessed to know her you would be truly rich indeed, because she was loved by all, endearing and unforgettable.

She is survived by her daughters: Marta Brown (Rick) of Cary, NC, and Monica Benson (Ivan) of Lilburn, GA; grandchildren: Jennifer Crawford (Troy), Kate Kenner (Chris), James Brown (Alysia), Suzanne Doublestein (Jeremy), Denise Benson, and eleven great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home, 1417 Offnere Street, Portsmouth, OH. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Autism Society of North Carolina, 5121 Kingdom Way, Suite 100, Raleigh, NC 27607,  SOMC Hospice Center, 2203 25th St., Portsmouth, OH  45662, or your local Church of Christ.
