James E. “Jim” Bragg

James E. “Jim” Bragg, 55, of Portsmouth, went home to the Lord on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the SOMC Hospice Center.  He is the son of the late Rev. Henry E. and L. JoAnn Bragg who undoubtedly were there to greet him along with many aunts, uncles, and friends.

Jim was a graduate of Vern Riffe/Happy Hearts School and also attended the Star Workshop.  He was a lifelong member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church and sang in the North End Community Choir.

Surviving are two sisters, Juanita F. Bragg and Valerie A. (Arthur) Lard, as well as a niece, Miana A. Lard, and nephew, Elijah A. Lard, all of Portsmouth. He also is survived by a host of cousins.  Jim has always been surrounded by family who were related “by blood or by love.”  The members of the community have always accepted Jim as one of their own which has always been a great comfort to his parents and sisters.  For this we will always appreciate and love you.

A Life Celebration and Homegoing Service will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Rev. Margaret V.L. Tyson officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Allen Chapel AME Church, P.O. Box 1047, Portsmouth, OH 45662, the Scioto County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Attn: Lynne Webb, 2619 Gallia St., Portsmouth, OH 45662, or SOMC Hospice, 2201-25th St., Portsmouth, OH 45662.
