Philip Harry Smith

Philip Harry Smith, 93, of Hurricane, West Virginia passed away Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s Medical Center in Columbus.  He was born February 2, 1928 in Universal, Pennsylvania to the late Albert Frederick Smith and Olive Hazel Berg Smith.  On September 24, 1950 he was united in marriage to Ruth Hennell Smith who preceded him in death on December 30, 2019.  Surviving are two daughters, Constance Lang and husband Greg of Waverly, Ohio and Cynthia Cummings and husband John of Hurricane, West Virginia; grandchildren, Brian (Molly) Lang and Adam Lang of Winslow, Illinois, Kristen (Azzie) Osborne of Waverly, Alan (Karen) Cummings of Winfield, West Virginia and Philip (Megan) Cummings of Statesville, North Carolina; and great-grandchildren, Karsten, Eli, Hailey and Cason; a sister, Jacobine Engel of Gambier, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Wilson Smith and Albert Frederick Smith III.

Philip worked as branch manager at Omar Bakery and retired as president of foods division at Broughton’s Dairy in Charleston, West Virginia.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Waverly with Rev. Dr. Melissa Senseman-Pratt and Pastor Dave Burriss officiating.  Burial will follow in Evergreen Union Cemetery on Denver Road in Waverly.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
