Dr. Gary P Hayes

Dr. Gary P Hayes, aka “Weasel”, 78, of Waverly, Ohio passed away Monday, May 18, 2020 at Traditions of Bristol Village in Waverly.  He was born December 30, 1941 in Breathitt County, Kentucky to the late Carl and Mildred Combs Hayes.  He is survived by his children; Scott Hayes and wife Michele of Waverly, Heather Hodson and husband Dan of Morehead, Kentucky and Dustin Hayes and wife Kim of Moraine, Ohio; grandchildren, Sarah Smither, Brody (Abby) Wolf, Kyler (Alex) Hodson, Austin (Lauren) Wolf, Chelsi Hayes, Colton (Addison) Wolf, Dawson (Danielle) Wolf, Easton Wolf, Hallie Hodson, Phoenix Wolf, Anthony Hayes and Savannah Hayes; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Ron (Martha) Hayes, Darryl (Mindy) Hayes and Rick (Ellie) Hayes; a sister, Beverly Baker; 20 nieces and nephews; and the mother of his children, Sybil Hayes.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wynn and John Hayes.

Gary graduated from Hazard High School and then obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Morehead State University and an M.D. from the University of Kentucky.  He joined Lebanon Medical Group in Lebanon, Ohio where he practiced medicine for 46 years and cared for over 4700 patients in his time as a doctor.  He was a member of the Lebanon Elks, Fellowship Baptist Church in Lebanon, Mather’s Mill Camp. He was a Kentucky Colonel and was president of the Warren County Medical Society. Gary was a season ticket holder to UK basketball, was a member of the UK Alumni Club, and a Collegiate Knight at Morehead.  The three things in life he was most passionate about were his family, his patients and Kentucky Basketball.
