Roy “Popeye” Wells Thomas, 82, of Lucasville, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at SOMC Hospice.
He was born May 12, 1937 in Minford, a son of the late Charles Wesley Thomas and the late Mary Curtis Thomas Crabtree.
Roy worked for many area farmers including Pearl Overturf and Glen Emnett and was a former employee of Jenny’s Mart in South Shore. Roy attended Duck Run Community Church.
He is survived by one son, Bobby Lee (Tammy) Thomas of Lucasville; two daughters, Betty (Tom) Trent of Beaver and Mary (Sam) Ellis of Lucasville; four grandchildren, Tommy Trent, Charles Thomas, Rosemary White, and Paulina “Piggy” Ellis; four great-grandchildren, Emma and Presley Trent, and Greyson and Evalyn Snow White; and one half sister, Emogene LeBrun of McDermott.
Roy was also preceded in death by his wife, Rosie Jane Miller Thomas, July 8, 2013; his granddaughter, Tabitha Odel; two brothers, Charles F. and Raymond E. Thomas; three half brothers, George, Ernie, and Bob Crabtree; and one half sister, Shirley Crabtree.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville with Phil Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Cooper Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday and an hour before the funeral Monday at the funeral home.
