Howard Owen Stapleton

Howard Owen “Speedy” Stapleton, 49, of McDermott passed away on Thursday March 21, 2019 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia.  He was born September 17, 1969 in Portsmouth, Ohio, son of Howard C. and Rosalie (Fodge) Stapleton of McDermott, Ohio.    In addition to his parents Speedy is survived by brother Michael Wayne (Julia) Stapleton of Lucasville, sister Robin Stapleton of McDermott, several nieces and nephews and  a very special great niece Alayna.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph and Rhoda Fodge and Leonard and Catherine Stapleton, brother James Jeffrey “Jim” Stapleton and special aunt Linda Lockwood.

Known to everyone as Speedy, he had a great passion for Mother Earth, loved working with animals, working in the garden, arrowhead hunting and fishing.  His passion for nature lead him to a career in landscaping and being a Park Advisor at Yellow Stone National Park.  Speedy was a member of the National Rifle Association and fishing clubs, he was truly an avid outdoorsman.

Arrangements are currently pending and have been entrusted to Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Otway.  The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Botkin Hornback Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.
