Carl Edwin Conkel, Jr.
Carl Edwin Conkel, Jr., 86, of Minford, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth. Born September 5, 1932 in Scioto County, a son of the late Carl Edwin Conkel, Sr. and Vivian (Brewer) Conkel, a graduate of Stockdale High School, he was a Gunnery Sgt. in the United States Marine Corp serving during Korea and Vietnam, retiring after 20 years of service. Following his military service he retired from the New York Metropolitan Bus Authority. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Debra Graf and her husband John of Red Bank, NJ; three grandchildren, Melanie Graf (Adam), Michael Graf, Candace Graf; four great grandchildren, Kayla Graf, Jacob Graf, Brooklyn Graf, Adrian Graf; a brother, Ronald (Catherine) Conkel; two sisters, Imogene Russell, Donna Blackwell, and his best friend, Buddy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Graf; a sister, Maxine Gross, and two brothers, Marvis Ellis Conkel and Paul Allen Conkel.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2019 at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Pastor Phil Howard officiating. Burial will be at Canter-Wells Cemetery in Lucasville. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
