Jack Freeland
Jack Eugene Freeland, 86, of Portsmouth, passed away Friday, Dec.14, 2018 at Advanced 360. He was born Jan. 26, 1932 in Portsmouth, a son of the late Oreland Clifton Freeland and Gertrude Katherine Licht Freeland Fry.
Jack was of the Presbyterian faith and a 1949 PHS graduate. He was a Korean War Air Force veteran, having earned the Korean Service Medal with two Battle Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal. Jack enjoyed tinkering with electronics and model airplanes and he was a gifted carpenter. He also had an avid interest in aircraft and Korean War history.
Surviving are his son, Jack Brian Freeland of Portsmouth; a sister, Marilyn Kay Miller of Dublin; two grandchildren, Stephanie Ann Days and Brian Keith Freeland; and his longtime companion, Georgianna Brown.
Jack was also preceded in death in Oct. 1976 by his wife, Chloe Cecelia Wellman Freeland; and a sister, Judith Ann Swearingen.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m.Tuesday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Rev. Evan D. Fisher officiating and interment in Memorial Burial Park. The James Dickey Post #23 Honor Detail will provide military graveside rites.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour.
The flag of the U.S. Air Force will fly at the funeral home in honor of Mr. Freeland’s service to our country.
