Darrell Risner
Darrell Risner, 83, of Minford, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Minford Retirement Center in Minford.
Born March 26, 1935 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, a son of the late Garland and Carma (McGuire) Risner, he was a Marine Corp veteran. He attended Ohio University where he received his B. A. degree and Master’s degree, was a teacher at Greenfield McClain for three years, teacher and counselor for Eastern Local School District, retiring in 1992 and family farm near Stockdale.
Darrell volunteered at the Cancer Center and loved playing music. He could play all the following instruments, mandolin, guitar, fiddle, harmonica, juice harp, dulcimer, accordion and keys. Darrell was an accomplished archer and enjoyed teaching archery to area youth.
He is survived by two sons, Dwayne Darrell (Paula) Risner, of Aylett, Virginia, Wayne Harold (Theresa) Risner, of Lucasville; a daughter, Pamela Mae Risner, of Portsmouth; three grandchildren, Jessica (Ryan) McGraw, Amber Risner, Kendra Risner; three great grandchildren, Landon Cole McGraw, Ella Kate McGraw, Grant Maximus McGraw; five brothers, Harold Risner, Delno Risner, Kenneth Risner, Eugene Risner, John Risner; two sisters, Sue LeBrun, Bonnie Smith, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Pastor Dennis Bell officiating. Burial will be in Bailey Chapel Cemetery in Wakefield. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
