Johnnie Charles Hisle

Johnnie Charles Hisle, 78, of Portsmouth, passed away Monday, December 3, 2018 at Southern Ohio Medical Center. He was born December 29, 1939 in Portsmouth, a son of the late Henry Hisle and Elsie Clyde Moody Potts.

Johnnie was a member of Laborers Local 83 and a former Scioto County Sheriff’s Office Special Deputy. He had attended Pleasant Green Baptist Church and Portsmouth City Schools where he was a stand-out athlete before joining the U. S. Army.

Surviving are his fiancée and longtime companion, Veda P. Taylor of Portsmouth; three daughters, Moneek C. Taylor of Portsmouth, Margoe (Robert) Segovia of Dallas, TX and Janae Hisle of Tyler, TX; a step-son, Gregory A. (Kelli Thacker) Cunning of Portsmouth; a son, Michael Hisle of Las Vegas, NV; two siblings, Jimmie (Diane) Hisle of Gahanna and Emma Jean Poore of Canal Winchester; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Rev. Clarence Parker officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour.

The James Dickey Post #23 American Legion Honor Detail will conduct Military Rites at the funeral home immediately following the funeral service.

The flag of the U.S. Army will fly at the funeral home in honor of Mr. Hisle’s service to our country.
