Paul F. Elrod
Age 85, of Portsmouth, died September 20, 2018 at his home.  He was born September 5, 1933 in New Boston to Harold and Lola (Dalton) Elrod.  Paul graduated from Clay High School in 1951.  He served in the U.S. Army and worked many years for Martin Marietta in Piketon in maintenance.  He was a wonderful musician and for many years performed in bands, also played on WSAZ with the Saturday Night Jamboree, country and gospel bands in Bainbridge, and some weekends at Dick’s Pizza on the river as a one-man band.  He was a bass guitarist, but also played acoustic guitar and keyboards.  He did all this by ear as he never learned to read music.  During these years he recorded several music CD’s.  He attended Cedar Street Church of Christ in Christian Union in New Boston and was a life member of Local 482 A.F of M. in Portsmouth.
Paul is survived by a special friend, Callie Yarnell of Portsmouth; two sisters, Juanita Sluder of Minford, Nancy Smith of Rising Sun, OH; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty in 2009, two sons, David and Michael Elrod; four brothers, Carlos, Bernard, Arthur, and Paul Elrod.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at D.W. SWICK-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in New Boston with Pastor Frank Stidham officiating.  Interment will follow in Memorial Burial Park.  Friends may call Monday from 5 – 7 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to the service.  Online condolences may be sent to www.DWSwickNelsonFuneralHome.com.
