Vernon D. Boland, 90 of Stout died Thursday, September 13, 2018 at SOMC Hospice. He was born October 28, 1927 in West Portsmouth to the late Roy and Lola Boland. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife; Alice Helen Boland, a son; Donald R. Boland, a brother; Burton Boland, and a sister; Ruth Boehm.
Vernon was an Army Air Corp Veteran of World War II, member of the Eagles, James Dickey Post 23 American Legion, and the National Rifle Association. He retired as a delivery driver for Betsy Ross Bakeries.
Vernon is survived by a son; Gregory Allen Boland, 3 grandchildren; Donald “Sonny” (Shelli) Boland, Amy (Matthias) Applegate, and Allison (Zachary) Kennedy, and 10 great grandchildren; Grace, Abie, Kadie, and Addie Boland, Emilee, Luke, and Ellie Applegate, Paden, Josiah, Olivia Kennedy, and a daughter in law Brenda Boland-Spires.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home with Owen Applegate officiating. Interment will be in McKendree Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites presented by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion.
