G. David Newsome

G. David Newsome, 72, of Portsmouth passed away Friday, June 29, 2018 at SOMC Hospice. Born February 14, 1946 in Portsmouth, a son of the late Dewey and Ada Snyder Newsome, he retired from GTE/Verizon and attended High Praises Church of God. He greatly loved his family and was a doting, devoted and loving grandfather. The love he had for his family and church was second only to God. He was a Wheelersburg Pirate sports fan where his grandchildren attended.

He is survived by his wife, Patty Gyor Newsome who he honored and cherished faithfully for 52 years; one daughter, Lisa (Daniel) Hess; two sons, David (Patti) Newsome, Darin Newsome; seven grandchildren, Daniel Hess, Dwayne (Cassie) Hess, Krista (Josh) Burgess, Zachary (Kara) McNeal, Mallory Newsome (Zach Brown), Brady Newsome, Keaton Newsome; five great grandchildren, Kambria Burgess, Khloe Burgess, Solomon Burgess, Zane Hess, Zoey Hess, and two sisters, Gwendolyn Zirkles and Connie Hodge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter Newsome, Richard Newsome, Thomas Newsome, and a sister, Linda Gaines.

The family would like to thank SOMC Hospital for their tender and loving care not only to David but also to his family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2018 at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Pastor Samuel Salyer, Dan Hess and Joshua Burgess officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
