Mary Louise Bailey
Mary Louise Bailey, 96, departed for heaven on June 8 from the Nazareth Home in Louisville, KY. While at Nazareth, she was active in the Retired Women Marines Corp. and Parkinson’s support group. Mary was in Clay High School’s first graduating of 1940. She received an undergraduate degree from Ohio University and master’s degree from Xavier University. As a Marine during WWII, Mary was stationed in Hawaii where she met her husband of 57 years, Umbrey Millard Bailey. She dedicated over thirty years of service to educating students in Clay and Green Townships and Portsmouth City school systems and was actively involved in local and state education and reading associations. Until moving to Louisville, Mary was a member of St. Monica Church in New Boston and was active in the Green Township Homemakers Extension Club and several quilting groups.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Umbrey, four brothers and four sisters. Left behind to cherish her memory are two daughters, Sharon Bland (Carl) and Donna Shelton (Jim), two sons, Timothy (Rhonda), Steve, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, Ohio followed by burial at St. Monica Cemetery in Sciotoville. Visitation will be from 10:30 am prior to the 1:00 pm service. In lieu of flowers, donations to support the cure of Spinal Muscular Atrophy are appreciated.
