Gerald Lee Harris
Gerald Lee “Jerry” Harris, 72, of Portsmouth, passed away Monday, June 4, 2018 at the SOMC Hospice Center. He was born February 25, 1946 in Blackfork, a son of the late Clarence Harris and Avanell Craddolph Mattison.
Jerry retired as material store supervisor from the former USEC where he had worked from 1973-1996 and he had worked at SOCF from 1966-1973. A 1964 Portsmouth High School graduate, he had also attended the Portsmouth Interstate Business College. Jerry was a past secretary-treasurer for the 14th Street Community Center Board.
Surviving are two sons, Patrick Lee Harris of Portsmouth and Christian Harris White of Wheelersburg; Ralph White of Ft. Wayne, IN and Carey and Kendra White of Portsmouth, whom he reared; three brothers, Walter Daniel Harris of Columbus, Anthony “Tony” Eugene Harris and Alex Ryan “Robbie” Harris , both of Portsmouth; a sister, Marion “Tootie” (Jack) Hostettler of Frankfort; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Marion “Rocky” Mattison.
A Celebration of Life will be held at noon Saturday at Pleasant Green Baptist Church with Rev. Clarence Parker officiating.
The family will receive friends at the RALPH F. SCOTT FUNERAL HOME in Portsmouth Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church Saturday.
