Bonnie Ruth Johnson

Bonnie Ruth Johnson, 75, of Portsmouth, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018 at SOMC. She was born June 17, 1942 in Portsmouth, a daughter of the late Glenn Elven and Marion Harriet Parish Shump.

Bonnie was very active in the Portsmouth community and she was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church. She was an active member of the SOMC Scioto Guild and a member of the Red Hat Society. A 1960 graduate from Portsmouth High School, Bonnie also graduated from the former Portsmouth Interstate Business College.

She enjoyed her position of Treasurer of the Portsmouth City Schools from where she retired after 25 years, having received numerous state awards. Bonnie had also previously been employed with the former American Savings Bank and she was a longtime member of the RSVP Advisory Council.

Surviving is her husband of 51 years, Kyle Bruce Johnson, Sr., whom she married August 13, 1966 in Portsmouth; three sons, Kyle Bruce “KB” (Jackie Weber) Johnson, Jr. of Winchester, KY, Eric M. (Julie Sanders) Johnson of Portsmouth and Peter (Amy) Lyle of Cumming, GA; a sister, Sue Howard of Miamisburg; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Joshua, Reese and Sydney Johnson, and Savannah, Madison and PJ Lyle; a very special niece, Vicci Felts; and many aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she dearly loved.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Jan Spires.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 30 at All Saints Episcopal Church with Rev. Steven Cuff officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
