Ben Joe Ison
Age 63 of Portsmouth, passed away on April 26, 2018 in Columbus. He was born January 9, 1955 in Ashland, Kentucky to Ellis and Della (Eggenspiller) Ison. A graduate of McKell High School, he worked as a salesman for Carrier refrigeration in Columbus.
Ben was a father, husband, and grandfather. He showed great love and honesty in his dealings with his fellow man. He truly believed in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ben had recently begun raising bees on his farm in Kentucky and was happy that his bees produced some of the best honey in the area. He loved life and delighted in his family. Ben showed his love for them daily and took delight in hearing from them. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Victoria Lykins Ison; sons, Daniel (Amie) Ison of Commerce City, CO; daughter, Misty (Jordan) Ison Brough of Leesburg, VA; stepdaughters, Erika (Paolo) Balzano of Lehigh Acres, FL and Rachel Ashworth of Portsmouth; eight grandchildren, Benjamin Ison, Clare Ison, Aubrey Ison, Julia Ison, Zachary Ison, Asher Brough, Josie Brough, and Allie Brough; step-grandchildren, Skye Thurston, Bryce Balzano, and Alessa Balzano; lifetime friend, Callus Ferguson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Portsmouth. Interment will follow at Ison Family Cemetery. Friends may call at D.W. SWICK-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in New Boston on Monday from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Online condolences may be shared at
