Adelaide “Dottie” F. Sparks

 

Adelaide “Dottie” Frances Sparks, 92, of Portsmouth, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Concord Health & Rehabilitation Center in Wheelersburg. She was born May 30, 1925 in Portsmouth,  a daughter of the late Elmer and Virginia Marie Winters Rigley.

Dottie was retired from the former Scioto Memorial Hospital where she worked as a nurse’s aid for 20 years. She attended Riverview Wesleyan Church and had been a member of the former Eastern Star Lodge #424 in Portsmouth.

Her husband, Clarence Edward Sparks, preceded her in death May 23, 1990. They were married in New Boston on August 12, 1941.

Dottie is survived by two sons, Clarence E. “Eddie” (Marie) Sparks, Jr. of Annville, KY and Wayne D. (Evelyn) Sparks, Sr. of Jacksonville, FL; a brother, Ralph C. Rigley of Bossier City, LA; three sisters, Doris E. Steiner of Lucasville, Shirley J. (Harry) Setser of Greenup, KY and Janet R. (Acie) Workman of Eden Park; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Dottie was also preceded in death by four siblings, Herman E. Rigley, Glen A. Rigley, Marjorie Payton and Mary Rigley.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 A.M at the RALPH F. SCOTT FUNERAL HOME in Portsmouth with  Rev. Kenneth Estep officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 5 to 7 P.M. and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
