Sharon Kay McCoy

Sharon Kay McCoy, 79, of Portsmouth, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 20 at the SOMC Hospice Center. She was born January 7, 1939 in Portsmouth, a daughter of the late Raymond L. Stephenson and Ann Lee Taylor Tracey.

A very talented seamstress and designer, Sharon was the owner of Sharon Kay Draperies and had worked alongside her mother at Ann’s Draperies making beautiful draperies and window coverings for some of the finest homes and businesses in the Portsmouth area. Sharon attended the former Evangelical United Brethren Church and was a former member of the PHS Football Mother’s Club and an avid fan of the PHS Trojans and OSU Buckeyes.

Surviving is her devoted husband of 63 years, Howard Frederick McCoy, Sr., whom she married March 19, 1955 in Portsmouth. Also surviving are her children, Howard F. McCoy, Jr. of Swanton, Kathy (Michael) Lovenguth of Portsmouth and Mary Carol McCoy of Portsmouth; a brother, James R. Setters of Portsmouth; three sisters, Suzanne M. Stephenson, Brenda M. (Robin) Hancock of Powell, TN and Carolyn S. (Richard) Duncan of Lucasville; two grandchildren, Patrick W. McCoy and Capt. Kristin K. (Tyler) Pierson;  five great-grandchildren, Emma Grace and Ashley McCoy, Nathan, Gideon and Caleb Pierson; and a sister of the heart, Doris Workman of Portsmouth.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Maurice L. Stephenson and William C. Setters; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Lu McCoy; her beloved uncle George F. (Muriel) Taylor; and beloved aunt Pauline Horton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the RALPH F. SCOTT FUNERAL HOME in Portsmouth with Dennis Dawes, minister, officiating and interment in Greenlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services Saturday.
